Jupiter
Jupiter
A painting in the Universal series. This series depicts the planets in our solar system, but also references, as we look out to these other planets, what we have to lose on our own. I wanted to include the Roman gods that inspired the names of the planets in our solar system. Floating in front of each planet is an animal that has attributes of the god or goddess the planet is named for. The toga worn by each animal is made from chemistry book pages. This creates a juxtaposition between the spiritual/ mythical aspect of the planets’ namesakes and the scientific nature of the chemical makeup of the planets themselves.
Created with oils and collaged paper on wooden panel.
Framed to 35 inches tondo
